Couldn't be a straight A. He's got hydraulics. I'm pretty certain the block
would have been different to accommodate the hydraulic pump. Likewise the
bell housing would have been different since that’s where the
resevoir/rockshaft mounted. I'm thinking it has the wrong shaft, hopefully
the casting was the same. I don't think too many parts interchanged between
the Super and straight A's. There were probably a few improvements, things
made heavier. I'm trying to think of any straight A's I remember in the area
and only one comes to mind. I imagine a lot of them were scrapped out fairly
quickly in favor of something with hydraulics.

Might be time to check some serial numbers and casting numbers
and make sure it is a Super A and not an A with Super A decals.
Or is it possible that a used rear casting from an A has been
used to replace the Super A rear casting.

Ron, not that it matters much but I ran the sizes by dad. He couldn't recall
any of the Super A's with a small PTO shaft. He thinks the straight A did,
possibly they would interchange? If what you have ordered doesn't fix the
problem, we better look at some parts books.

Took a quick glance at the parts book, didn't see a small one listed, just
the 1 3/8. I'm headed over to the shop now, I'll ask dad if there were 2
sizes available or if the shaft in yours is out of something else, maybe a
straight A? did you wind up getting another shaft or are you going to use an
adpator?

John,
The pto shaft is 6 spline 1 1/8 diameter. I need 6 spline 1 3/8
diameter. I found a source.
I'll be sure to watch the clearance to the oil pan. Thanks for
that warning.
