[AT] Rewinch batteries

Years ago I use to purchase all my batteries directly from a battery distributor near me. Houston Texas

I would give them the size and type of battery. They would go to a pallet of batteries of that type.  Then he would ask  what warranty I wanted and select the proper label to place on the battery.  The only difference in the battery for different brands and warranties was the label.

My question was always what is the cheapest. That way I never had to use the Warranty. I just purchased another battery when it failed.  
Less hassle and cost that away.

Many years ago I had a friend that worked in a factory where they rebuilt
batteries. He said at that time in the 60s there were only 3 battery
manufactures in the us then. And they were tagged as to whom was to sell
them. I recall one I think it was exide don,t remember any other.As some one
said they put the tag that he wanted on a new one. I would expect it is much
the same now days because of dep dea or whom ever you want to stick there
nose in.

Spencer,  I suspect that is absolutely true.  There is a lot of hazardous 
waste involved in
making batteries and it's not something every body will jump into.  I'm sure

the different
brands contract with one of a few manufacturers and specify how they want 
their models built.

I was told by an AC Delco parts rep that very few battery recyclers or 
manufacturers exist.    All batteries come from the same 2-3 plants.

He did also claim though, that high end batteries, such as their 
professional series, were made to specifications and were not just run of 
the mill batteries made out of whatever cases and recycled lead were 
available that day.

No idea if any of that is true but I trust the source to be honest and 
fairly well informed.
