I didn't see where you mentioned the gap. I would start with the info and 
instructions from Dave. Make sure none of your wired in the distributor are 
grounding out as well

I'm not at home at the moment, but my wife looked up some Pacer information 
in the owners manual that I have. She read to me the following:
Point gap .020 (=/- .002)
Plug gap .025
Firing order 1342
I seriously doubt that you changed the timing by simply adjusting the 
points. To change the timing you would have to loosen the distributor and 
turn it. If that has happened, or if someone else had done that, then the 
timing may be off.
When you adjusted the points are you SURE you had the engine cranked over to 
a point where the high part of the distributor lobe was making contact with 
the fiber "brush" on the point? On my Pacer (with the spark plugs out) I can 
turn the fan by hand to get one of those 4 lobes in just the right place. I 
learned a long time ago that when replacing spark plug wires it's always 
better to remove and replace them one at a time. That way you don't have to 
remember which damn hole in the distributor cap the wires should be plugged 
into. Another little trick (one that my son used all the time) is to take a 
picture (of whatever) before you start. He uses the camera in his phone (My 
problem with that procedure is that more often than not I simply take 
another picture of my thumb!)
