[AT] OT - computer advice

Windows 8.1 can be set up nearly like W7. A sidebar is available for
gadgets -- actually probably more than one option on sidebars by now --
Google for one. Also 8.1 will boot directly to desktop--just needs to
be told to do so when you set up the system. Set up your desktop with
your favorite programs and go! If you like the app screen, just push
the Windows key. In desktop the system operates quickly and cleanly. I
rarely go to the app desktop except for a program or two I've loaded.
Biggest pain is the need for ID and password in the app world. Rarely
needed however for day to day stuff such as word processing and
spreadsheets. LibreOffice works nicely in the desktop system -- a nice
freebie.
