I'd check with the school.  Many times they have deals with Microsoft or
Apple.  From what I've seen, the hardware you can find better deals on.
However the software is sometimes really cheap.  I want to say Windows and
Office was less than $50 using my university license agreement as a
student.  Couple that with an off lease business desktop/laptop and I think
you can get a pretty good deal.
