Thanks Dean. That’s not a problem here. The highest elevation in this
county is about 60 feet above sea level and that is the top of the regional
landfill. Slopes are not a problem except things like ditch banks and river
banks.

Charlie,

I don't know what kind of terrain you are planning on mowing but if you have
hilly property and occasional wet mowing conditions there are some downsides
to certain types of Zero Turn Mowers. Some, maybe all zero turn mowers are
steered by only the two rear drive wheels and when on slippery side slopes
keeping the mower on the straight and narrow can become a difficult
proposition. If these two conditions apply to your mowing requirements, I
would suggest asking for recommendations for these environments. Several
years ago JD introduced a smaller type ZTR called a "Spin Steer" SST16 and
SST18 that JD built 40,000 of that became a real problem for them. Many
customers had problems steering them on side hills and the product got a bad
name very rapidly. JD later introduced a rear weight kit that I believe
they offered to customers free of charge in an attempt to solve the problem.
The kit helped but didn't completely solve the problem and this mower's
sales suffered badly and the SPIN STEER line reputation never really
recovered. JD never reintroduced this kind of ZTR mower again although they
and many others have ZTR mowers a plenty in their product offerings. I
suspect some brands work better than others on wet side hills. BTW,
interestingly those that used the Spin Steer models on flat ground really
liked them.

I'd like to hear peoples opinions of different brands of ZTR mowers. I'm
not interested in particular brands or what is cool or popular.
I'm looking for the most bang for the money in terms price, reliability and
serviceability.
Cheaper is better but price isn't everything.
I don't want a small machine and I don't want a huge one. I do place some
importance on speed.

Thanks

Charlie
