If he only has 1/3 acre he can get a guy with a BIG excavator to do the work 
for 
about what the down payment would be on the backhoe.   If he wants a toy, 
that's another 
subject but let me say this.  The capability of back hoes and excavators is 
sort of exponential. 
What I mean is that a backhoe that weighs 20,000 lbs will do more that 4 
times the work of 
an backhoe that weighs 5000 lbs and it will do it fast as well.  You can 
beat a small backhoe to death 
trying to move one rock or stump that won't even crack the governor on a 
20,000 lb class excavator.

A neighbors son  I know is looking for a backhoe. He has a house on about 
1/3 an acre on a hill. Needs lots of excavation. He was thinking about 
buying one instead of renting it. 



I mentioned that he might be better off with a Terramite or and Allmand 
since he has such a small area. Would be tough to move around on that small 
parcel with a full size backhoe . He started looking around and saw that 
Kubota's were less expensive. 



I've used a Terramite and an Allmand and I was impressed. Never used a 
kubota. 



Any preferences out there?
