[AT] Best of ATIS? -The D8 story, misc

Larry, on one of the occasions when ATIS went down and we feared something
permanent or long term had happened I went so far as to set up a Facebook
page for Antique tractors but about the time
I finished setting it up ATIS popped back to life and I've never done
anything with it. I think Facebook might actually make a good format for
this type of communication.

Hey, Herb. Good to hear from you. There are some other changes going on in
the form of how we communicate electronically that (IMHO) makes a difference
in how much we use a particular email list. Are you on Facebook? Many of
the new lists do more interchange on that than by email. As for the subject
line in email, it's an antiquated item that we have as a hold-over from
previous "correct" forms of communication. Do you remember when every
message you wrote had to start with the date and a formal address such as:
Dear Sir? I'm talking about pre-computer days. When is the last time you
wrote anything that started out, "Dear (anything)." To my way of thinking,
it's futile to lament over those changes, but simply to just "Move on..."

Assuming that you had a membership in AAA, do you still have one? If so,
why? You can get better rates on travel and better maps at any of a bunch
of on-line sites. Your auto insurance probably has emergency road service
that is competitive with AAA, and with the smart GPS apps, who needs a map
anyway?

I think the last time I communicated with you, I told you I was going to
scan the entire series of Allis-G manuals that I gave you a hard copy of
many years ago. That project is done, and I'll put together a special thumb
drive for you with those on it. FWIW, the archive of Power King literature
that I have been concentrating on now totals over 33,000 pages. I'm waiting
to receive my order for some Slim Tag USB Thumb Drives which are imprinted
with the two most common Power King logos and which come to me from the
factory with all 33,000 pages stored on them. It turns out that I can buy
custom-imprinted thumb drives (loaded with all the files) for about half the
price of a new thumb drive from any retail source.

Yesterday, I decided to redeem some of the points that have built up on my
credit card by purchasing a Kindle Fire. That is the only electronic reader
that is set up to accept privately-generated materials such as slideshows,
PDF's, and Power Point presentations. So I'm going to have a Kindle set up
with the entire archive of tractors available with me when I go to tractor
shows this year.

Al; agreed. I spend more time on allischalmers.com because I am looking for
Allis G or D14 tech info or wanting to share my (limited) knowledge about
Allis G's with some new enthusiast, or looking for a good deal on a G or
some G equipment. Threads are stolen there also. My opinion is this
occurs because we do not read the title, but just the text, and when we hit
"reply", the old title automatically pops up.
Today many of us go to tractor shows to fellowship with long established
antique tractor friends moreso than to buy/sell or repair tractors. Similar
reasoning applies to our internet communications.

I think that is the biggest reason. I myself spend a lot of my free
internet time on farmallcub.com and redpowermagazine.com.
