Hi Chris,
Welcome, who is quoting you the $500 to fix the old radiator, sounds a little fancy to me? I would bring it to a full time radiator shop, and see if they can cobble something up. They might even be able to find a new radiator that will fit in the same spot as the old.  If it runs good and starts good with good rubber and tin, it certainly doesn't sound like junk to me.
