My old IH 440 baler has given up twisting wire. It should be noted that
it probably had a million miles of wore run through it. It is the Lok
Twist wire knotter. I can find parts listed from IH, but it would cost
about $1500 to rebuild just the cutter parts of the knotter.

I tried out the Hesston 4600 baler in place of the IH I was trying to
get some hay baled for a customer who had to have small bales. After an
entire day of trying to get it to bale without shearing a pin, it
appears it needs about 2 days work and an additional $1000 of parts. I
bought this baler 2 years ago while Dad was bedfast and I bales about
100 bales with it and gave up because the bales were bowed terribly. I
have a former baler mechanic working with me for a few weeks, and he
found the problems with this newer baler that were never taken care of
by the dealer I bought it from. I was assured by the salesman that this
baler had been through their shop and was ready to go to the field.
Looks like tI have a different definition of ready to go to the field.

Does anyone have a source of parts for a 440 IH baler?. Used or New.
