Jerry,
A couple of more things.
If you're on cement it's OK to scrape down to the cement, But if your on
dirt/gravel, raise the blade a little to avoid having to rake gravel out
of your lawn next spring. This is especially a good idea if you live on a
dirt/gravel road. The county doesn't like people scraping gravel off the
road and into the ditch or a driveway. Where I live, you'd be charged with
theft and pay a fine for pushing county gravel into your driveway.
When you're done plowing your driveway, push the snow off of the shoulder
for about 20 ft before your driveway. Then when the county plows come
through, their blades unload before hitting your driveway. It'll keep you
from having to keep cleaning the end of your driveway every time they come
through.
I also clean around the mail box for about 10 ft so they don't bury it.
Cleaning the shoulder also gives them a good look at where the edge of
the ditch is so they can better judge how close to plow into the shoulder.
