A friend of mine has a drilling company (drills for large poles, pilings,
etc. in the earth); his drilling trucks have hydraulic drills on them. He
says he just uses non-detergent oil; cheaper than hydraulic fluid & works as
well. Might put oil in the ps pump instead of hydraulic fluid? Years ago I
had an old bobcat & the dealer said I could use atf, 30 wt oil or hydraulic
fluid in it.

Subject: [AT] Hydraulic oil vs. motor oil
I have a leak between the power steering pump and the engine block on my
Case 430 industrial. I have about two hours of run time left before I
finish the project I'm working on. Will it hurt the engine if I keep using
it knowing that the engine oil is getting contaminated by hydraulic oil? I
can tear it all apart before I finish, but I'd really like to get this
project done first.
Enjoy, Joe
