[Farmall] Gas tank residue

Good point about attacking the stuff dry.  Maybe you could throw in some 
nuts, bolts, nails etc. and tumble it for a while with no solvent.  If it 
doesn't work, you can still try the solvents.  I doubt it is explosive.

I agree with Carl.  The more you can remove it in chunks and pieces the
better.  Maybe you can improvise a sort of spatula out of a strip of
sheet metal to scrape under it, and grab out chunks with ice tongs or
big "tweezers"..  Why solubilize all that gunk if you don't have to.
