i have a farmall super a that i put a homemade 3 pt hitch on
i was wondering if i could use a post hole digger on it
worried about pto being to the side and rotation direction

My thoughts exactly regarding the magneto, Jim.

As for the manifold, yes they are threaded. See if you can find someone with 
a pipe tap that can clean it up for you. It is a good possibility the 
manifold is shot if the tractor has been run a long time with a pipe merely 
shoved in the outlet. Once you get the threads cleaned up, go by the 
hardware store and get a new piece of black iron pipe. Don't get crazy 
screwing it in as the wall thickness on the manifold is kind of thin and you 
may have a crack there already that will get worse when the pipe tightens 
up.
