Ralph,

Nice looking AR. Without hearing it myself it is hard to say whether it has normal or too much
tappet noise. I've learned to go by my gut on these kinds of things. If it bothers you, the settings
should be checked. It isn't all that big a deal to pop the tappet cover and do some checking. Might
want to be prepared with a replacement gasket. I don't have a manual handy for your AR but I'm
pretty sure the Tappet Clearance is supposed to 0.020". Just a few thousands off can effect timing
about 4 degrees per 0.001" off. The correct tappet setting might give a little improvement in engine
performance as well. Worth a check.

Had to fire up the old AR John Deere yesterday while re-arranging stuff in the shed. Took it out to
blow the dust off and get all the fluids warmed up a little as this tractor does not see much use
anymore.
Took a little video that I hope to upload to the net one of these days when I have a more user
friendly connection. For now here is a still photo.
I notice what seems to be a lot of valve noise at slow idle. Is that normal for these 2 cylinder
engines or should I be adjusting the tappets?
