[AT] Off Topic, Meyers versus Western Snow Plows on 1985 F250?

There must be some reason why he is using the Meyers unit over the
Western unit. From my experience, Western pumps work faster than
Meyers. The whole deal smell rotten.

Look on Craigslist for a plow in your area.

Ever had buyers remorse?

Looked at the plow yesterday. The holding part was on the truck. Also
noticed that the holder was welded pretty heavily to the frame of the
truck on the back part. Plow looked good, Painted, not perfect but no
holes or visible welds.

He had a Meyers power unit on it. He said the Meyers unit does not go
with the plow and that he had the western pump. Asked to see the western
unit, he pulled it out of the barn. Says it works. Said he had the
switches also. No manual. I did not see the switches but I should have
asked to see them. I also don't know if it has a wiring harness.

I should have walked away and said I will get back to him... But, I was
thinking I don't have the time to look around. Told him I wanted it but
I did not want to have to fabricate the unit to get it on my truck. I
wanted it to bolt on. What if I get there and its cut off and there are
no rear brackets? That would mean fabrication on my end. If he cuts it
off how am I going to be sure it will fit on my truck? I can fabricate
brackets but I really don't want to.

Also, I have not seen it work, he says it does but what recourse will I
have if it does not? If it does have a wiring harness can he ground it
and put voltage to it and make it work? Is that unreasonable to ask?

Then I gave him the contact information with the guy that had the Myers
plow since I had agreed to buy the Western.

Am I being picky for $500? Maybe I'm predicting the worst. It may just
be OK after all... But driving away I just did not have a good feeling,
I just thought, he comes another project.

Anybody have a manual to an old Western plow? Any pictures of the blade
holding unit that I can pattern from?

Regards,

Will

I have plowed with both, Western and Meyers. I have had the same basic
Western unit for 15 years now, all I have had to do is replace 2
motors. Meyers, I always carried spare coils and solenoids. I had a new
Meyers plow back in the 80's, the coils started to go bad within 2
years. I think the Western is a better plow. For a full size pick up,
you need at least a 7"6" blade. I think with a 7' blade, when you angle
it, it won't be wide enough, without the tires running over unplowed
snow. $500 is a fair price. Check all the pivot points, and wear edge
of the blade. Look for non factory welds.

Hello,

I'm looking for a plow for my old 1985 F250 Ford Diesel Truck.

I've found 2 somewhat near me. A Western about 20 miles away, owner says
its off a 1984 F250 and that he has several other F250's with Meyers and
he wants them all the same. 7' 6" blade. I know the 1984 F250 is
essentially the same as a 1985.

The other is a 7ft Meyers about 40 miles away off of a 1986 F250.

Both owners are asking $500.

I'm leaning for the closer Western plow. Is there a big difference
between both of the plows? Is $500 a fair offer?

Regards,

Will
