[Farmall] Farmall H Fluid pumping out of hole in hydraulic fill cap

Dear John,

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me with my H. Here is
the additional information you requested.

The loader and tractor have always been stored inside the barn. My
family has owned the tractor since purchasing it new in 1952. I believe
the hydraulic system was made by M&W Model #95PP. I am unsure how to
identify the loader manufacture. (lift-all?)

The fluid that is pumping out is milky in color - which seems odd. So
you comment about water or contamination may be part of the problem. I
am assuming that you are suggesting to use Hytran to replace the current
oil if it is contaminated. Any suggestions on how to go about flushing
out the entire system.

Thanks again,
David Pommert

Oh by the way the link you suggested was not attached to the e-mail you
sent, perhaps you could re-send it to me.

It would help to know a little more, such as what kind of loader, is it
stored outside, did you just buy it, or have you owned and used it for a

while, etc. The first thing that comes to mind is water contamination
raising the fluid level, though that is not common on hydraulics. The
second thing that comes to mind is either low fluid level causing
foaming, or the wrong fluid having been added that may also cause
foaming, the old liftalls used non detergent motor oil, though Hytran
could be used but motor oil needed to be flushed out first. One other
thing that comes to mind is that if it is a model 30 or 31 IH loader,
you need more plumbing. The H liftall does not hold enough fluid to
operate them (M does, but not H), and there are return lines that go
from the outer end of the cylinders to the fill cap of the hydraulic
system so overflow can go into the top of the cylinder, and then be
drawn back as needed. Here is a link to a copy of the owners manual for

the model 30 loader showing the needed additional plumbing if that is
what is needed. The plumbing for the model 31 is the same.
