[Farmall] Int. 184 overhaul - a mystery

The spring, piston, plug, etc. are removed form the OUTSIDE of the 
block, not the inside.  If it came out toward the inside the block is 
broken and needs attention.  Of course it may have gotten laid or 
dropped in the pan doing a previous repair and the pan installed without 
noticing.

Mike, I think you meant the pump is on the rear of the engine didn't 
you?  At least it is on all of the C60 engines I have ever seen, 
requiring removal of the flywheel to get to it.
