Pour some molasses on the traction side of the belt while it's running and 
let it run idle until the molasses dries out enough to get tacky.  I don't 
think it lasts as long as belt dressing but it smells better and (I think) 
pulls more power while it is "good".

Spray belt dressing can be found in most autoparts stores.  I don't think it 
is worth a tinkers dam though.
