I got in the habit of using these T hooks back when I had a wrecker
(hook on the right side of the page)

I installed a set of them on my trailer safety chains and just hooked
them into the slots in the truck frame rails. As time passed and we
kept switching vehicles proper fitting became a problem so son Scott
started attaching clevis grab hooks to the trucks.

They are attached pointing back at a slight down angle and the links
of the chain are just dropped in the hook at the needed length. It
solved our chain length problem.
