I would suggest any of the following:

Mityutoyo
Starret
Brown & Sharp

These are all great quality manufacturers.  You can get very good results out of the cheap import calipers, micrometers, etc, but the quality isn't as great, and they will not last as long as the ones above.  Granted, anything that deals with accuracy only lasts as long as you care for it.
