[AT] Climbing on and off of our old tractors

While my knee problem was the big trouble getting off of my Allis C
this time it has always been pretty much of a bear getting off.
As best that I can tell I am not any younger today than I was
yesterday and that seems to be a trend... :-)
So today I looked at the Allis to see what might be done to improve
the situation. I have seen them where the nice big wide seat was
removed including the cross frame and replaced with a simple tractor
pan seat. I wonder if those were changed to make getting on and off
easier. I want to keep the seat original.
My first thoughts are to build a roll bar for it that would be behind
the seat and built in a way so that I could use it to grab hold of and
pull myself up to get off. I never move the arch drawbar and a roll
bar could run from the outer holes in the drawbar up past the set of
bolt holes in the back of those big side rails on each side of the
seat (also holds the fenders) and it could also be braced forward to
the cultivator mounts on top of the axles outside of the fenders.
Should be quite sturdy and would not do any permanent damage to the
tractor like making holes or welding anything on anywhere.
I'll just put it away now but I want to get it out and in the shop in
a few months for a starter rebuild or replace, a generator rebuild, a
tune-up and a paint touch up.
I'm making separate computer list of work needed on each tractor. I
won't print the lists out, it would take too much paper... ;-)
I am planning to sell a piece of property next summer and I plan on
putting some money in my old tractors. Lots of tires and in a couple
of cases maybe even about half of a tractor. :-)
I think it would still pay me more than anything I could get at the
bank these days.
I am selling some equipment this winter and I am thinking of hiring
some part time help. Now I just need to find someone who is a good
mechanic and a good carpenter, roofer, plumber and electrician. Oh,
yeah, he has to work cheap too... :-)
