Roy if you go to Tractor Supply or most any farm store and some hardware 
stores you can find Mr. Heater brand heaters.  They are propane powered 
infrared jobs.  They attach directly to propane bottle and provide 
directional radiant heat.  They work great for working in a cold shop.  Put 
it so that it is out of the way but fairly close to your work.  It will warm 
you and the work to some degree but really won't do much to warm the whole 
shop.
They come in different sizes.  Of course the smaller ones are the cheapest. 
Bigger is probably better.
