I'm not saying this would work but I wonder if anyone has tried it.  How 
about a mixture of water, lye or some other strong cleaner, detergent and 
some light oil.  Sort of a salad dressing cleaner.  You would have to let it 
circulate to get it mixed.  Then the cleaners could do their work and the 
light oil would leave enough of a coating to prevent flash rust.  I don't 
know if it would work or not.  Just a thought.  Maybe a citrus cleaner.
