[AT] OT - is this a hoax?

Neal,

I agree with your concern but if this is a scam wouldn't they want to offer an
unusually attractive price since they won't be paying it anyway? And they do
mention bringing cash to the owner with a representative. I agree with all the
caution flags but this one doesn't fit the mold of others I have seen.

Mike,
Has all the earmarks of the "Nigerian Scam" with a different location.
What it will boil down to is he will send you a "cashiers check" for an
amount above the price of the car, with the request that you forward the
difference to his "shipping agent" to take care of the delivery. When you
take the "cashiers check" to the bank, they will say that it is valid and
deposit it. Two or three weeks later, after you have sent part of the money
to his agent, the check will come back as a forgery. You will be out the
money that you have sent off, along with the banks fees, and you will have
to cover the check with your bank if you have spent any of it.

Check this out from Craigslist (scam # 2).

"Victor" wanting to ship a Camry with 180k miles on it to Africa makes about
as much logical sense as the emails that I get from people who want to share
their stash of hundreds of millions of dollars with someone whom they just
picked out of an email address list.

Chances of it being legit are slim to none.

Neal
