I must show my ignorance here, because I do not have any of my engine books here in the house. Is this a dry sleeve engine? You can always bore it out oversize and install thicker sleeves in order to cover up a hole in the cylinder walls from casting core misalignments etc. I have had to do this a few times in large overbores.
