  I have worked with several trailer manufactures in various countries, including the US. I have found that some of the manufacturers and dealers are a bunch of guys who may (or may not) know what they are talking about.
  It is good to gather some opinions to check and see if what they tell you makes sense.

  I've followed this thread with some interest since I've never had a  
gooseneck trailer. After reading all the replies, I'm VERY convinced  
that if I ever do get such a trailer I'll ask a trailer/hitch dealer  
where the ball should be placed rather that rely on the opinion of a  
bunch of guys who may (or may not) know what they are talking about!
