[AT] Digitizing LPs (Vinyl) Was Re: The Wreck Of The Old 97/OT

Don,
I used to go through all those steps to convert audio. Now I just use
Audacity to do the job for me.

With it I import the audio from the source (IE;play the record,tape,8
track)or whatever. This gets recorded as a file in Audacity.
Now I go in and use a couple of the free plug-ins to eliminate any noise
or clicks/pops and such.
Then I use another one to adjust the musics levels so that they are the
same as the rest of my collection (that gets rid of the annoying volume
variations you normally hear)
Now I can edit the file into the separate songs by adding a tag at the
beginning of each song.
Then just export multiple files as whatever format you want.

You end up with all the songs in separate files tagged with the album
and song title.

Sounds like a lot of work but it actually takes a LOT less time than it
sounds.
The noise filter is two mouse clicks, the amplify is two clicks. On
average both items take about 2 minutes to complete.
The process adds about 10 minutes to whatever time it takes for the
music to play into your computer.

Oh and it's a free program.
