Don't put much $$$ into it. They aren't very durable. They had a weak bottom end and liked to do a good imitation of a hand grenade. They were basically a 350 olds gas engine converted to diesel.
It was a much poorer setup than if it had been designed from the start as a diesel. My dad had an '81 buick with one in. He bought it with some valve train problems. He fixed that problem, then ran it for about two weeks and it blew up. He swapped it out for a 403 buick engine. I'm a GM guy, but those things really gave Diesels a bad reputation for a long time. I remember someone telling me that they weren't intended (or advertized) to be used for any heavy work like we expect a truck to do. If they had been a success, we would probably have a lot more (and more affordable) diesel cars and trucks in this country today.?Sorry I didn't do much to answer your question. ;-)
