[AT] Off topic---soil sampler

The last soil probe I can remember using was a hand probe that was pushed 
(or hammered) into the ground to get a sample. I really can't recall much 
more about it. For some reason the one I recall best is the electric one 
that I used about 30 years ago. Just a couple of clips to hook onto the 
battery of the old Dodge pickup and then pull the trigger on the little hand 
held auger. It was only about a inch and a half diameter hollow pipe but it 
turned into the ground pretty easy. Hardest part was digging the compacted 
wet soil sample out of that tube. I haven't done any soil sampling in years 
now. If your a big enough fertilizer customer I expect they would come out 
and sample your fields for free now at today's prices. :-)
