[AT] Profane propane prices; was Fuel prices

Al, believe it or not I have the same problem with my fireplace. It's
nearly impossible to burn a fire in it without smoking the house up.
However, I had a guy make me a block off plate out of 14Ga steel by bending
3 sides of it not quite to a 90 degree angle so that it would spring in and
wedge it's self in place inside the face of the fireplace. Luckily my
fireplace is nice and square. Then I anchored it to the brick through the
"wings" I'll call them with masonry screws. I have a hole cut in the face
of the block off plate the right size for the heater and a starter collar
fastened into the hole to make the connection to the heater. Sprayed it all
with flat black hi heat rattle can paint. It works like a champ. Has very
good draft. In fact it almost has too much draft. It's hard to get a match
or piece of fat lightwood to burn in the door of the stove. The draft sucks
the fire right off of it. As it works out, the fireplace chamber acts as a
smoke chamber and there is no direct connection between the heater and the
chimney. I don't know but I'm thinking that will help with any creosote
problems I might have.
