[AT] Case 480E CK Question(s) for Mike Sloane (and others)

I will get back to you later off-line, Bruce - I need to dig up the
manual for the toe-in in specs. Generally, if you set it between 1/8"
and 1/4" you won't be that far off. My tractor is a 430CK, but it isn't
all that much different from a 480CK in front end geometry.

I would say that your trailer should be OK for your tractor (just
barely), but you are going to need a truck rated for the load - likely a
1 ton. I use a Ford F350 mason dump with duals, which is rated at 10,000
GVR, and a landscape trailer that is rated at 7,000. Probably at least
half the ATIS members are better able than I to make towing equipment
recommendations. The reality of hauling a machine like yours is that
braking equipment is far more critical that pulling - almost anything
can get the rig moving, but it takes a really good braking system to
make things stop properly, especially in bad weather, going down hill,
or in an emergency (like when idiots in SUVs cut you off or jam on the
brakes to pull into a 7-11). You can usually pick up used dump trucks
with pintle hitches and brakes fairly reasonably, but you have to make
sure that they don't require a CDL to operate.

As to my Case, I will be spending the next several days using it to help
move 200 tons of millings coming this morning from a nearby town
re-paving job. The tractor can handle as much as I can get into the
bucket, but, with 2WD and only a 55 gal drum full of iron on the back
for a counterweight, I don't have enough traction to fill the bucket
completely. I spend more time in transit than I do filling and dumping.
Then I back drag the bucket to level out what I dump. My neighbor has a
4WD JD backhoe/loader that does much better with filling its 1 yard
bucket, but I can only envy him. I usually end up doing the leveling
while he does the transport. So far, we have done about 3/4 or our two
mile gravel lane - material from a county road project - and the Case
has performed flawlessly.
