Not sure about the model Stihl you have, John. If your thinking condenser, 
does it have points?  How about point gap and wear or sticking? If its the 
electronic ignition,  everything is in the coil. I've seen them do some 
strange things-they don't all fail the same. I don't think they use a 
condenser thougth??
