The oldtimer I learned farming from said a dry year is better than a wet 
year. Easier to get the ground in shape. Don't get too carried away with 
the irrigation Grant, we used to grow everything up here dryland. If you 
have good moisture now and you can keep it cultivated I'll bet you could 
get a good crop of potatoes without any more water.

A few years ago I grew some watermellons up at Mariposa in 103 deg. 
temperature without water.
