Just how old are we talking here.

Cable or hydraulic lift on the blade

Electric or Pony start.

The D7-E had a good 4 cylinder except that it was prone to head gasket leaks 
if not shut down peoperly

The D-F  had a much better 6 cylinder engine but had trouble with the 
Transmission pump you just couldn't keep one working for very long.

But all in all I have never seen a tractor that was built to last any better 
than the Cats. They use nothing but 4140 steel bolts (harder than grade-8) 
and everything on them is just about twice as heavy as on other tractors of 
the same size.  No wonder they weigh so much.
