[AT] O/T weather out west

Those photos from Kearney to Grand Island, Hastings, and Mindon are truly
sad -- beautiful, but sad. I feel an attachment to that route because I
have traveled it so often -- for 60 years at this point.

When the second storm hit, email stopped going through and I thought "the
worst" for all those in the region, but I was able to contact some cousins
in the Fort Morgan area and found that they had very little disruption. For
some reason, there is an island in eastern Colorado that was by-passed by
the storm. But if you go 50 miles in any direction there is a serious
problem -- ice to the north and east, snow to the west and south. I still
haven't heard from my relatives in Hastings, Mindon, Nelson...

We're bracing for five inches of rain over Saturday and Sunday. It could be
worse. It could be snow and ice. I'm expecting to curl up with Rog's new
book and do nothing exciting or strenuous for a couple of days. BTW, Rog, I
have to echo the comments that were made last week. There are many of us
who grew up on those 40-acre aliquots who have experienced all those
problems first-hand, and we recognize the play on words in your title. I
haven't gone out on Google Earth to look at your "spread", but I'm sure that
I will so that I get a more accurate mental image of your geography. I
Googled my own place a couple of months ago and found that the satellite
image happened to be made while I was down by the barn working with one of
my tractors. It's a little strange to find my image preserved online until
they decide to update the database at some point in time.
