It seems to me that the LP gas is regulated somewhere around 11 to 13 inches
of water column.  The LP vapor is heavier hence higher pressure, but then
smaller orifices are used.  
 
Another thing, I have been told that using copper is not recommended because
the copper flakes off and stops up the small openings in the burner orifices
 
 
In my opinion the best and safest material to use would be black iron pipe.
Figuring lengths for having the pipe threaded should not be such a big
problem.
