The lever has to be pushed rather hard against some internal spring, and
then held there by a small hunk of angle iron that swivels to lock it in
place. (At least that is the way it is on my 123.)
And yes, it is filled with Hytran (or the modern equivalent, which can
be found in almost any farm supply or auto parts store).
