Be aware that the degree of detail on the images varies, depending on
the area. For instance, when I look at my property in northwestern NJ, I
can identify the tractors parked in front of the barn. But when I took a
look at Dick Fink's place in rural western PA, the details were very
vague. The same is true in other parts of the world. I suspect the
management of the system spent more money buying satellite images from
more densely populated regions of the world. Also realize that the
colors are not natural but are adjusted from infra-red imagery in some
places. But it is still good fun. If you have a broadband connection,
you can actually fly over like a helicopter or drive down roads, but the
buildings and hills are not quite realistic from that angle.
If you run the program, you can go to: 40° 56' 30.88" N and 74° 50'
54.61" W and get down to about 750' altitude before things get too
fuzzy. That is my barn and property back about two years ago in March.
