After my first response, I saw all the other responses posted with respect
to battery testing. Batteries have to be checked in various ways to ensure
that their good or bad. The specific gravity of each cell needs to be
looked at and compared to the others, it also has to be within a given
range. Batteries should be checked under loaded conditions to show that
they can deliver what their supposed to. Also, just because a battery can
accept a charge doesn't mean it's good, it may not hold the charge
(internal short?). A bad battery can show the correct voltage when checked
with a meter, the meter doesn't put a load on the battery.

The test equipment I use checks the battery by first draining the battery,
and then checking to see if it pulls too much current when being charged,
and also how long it takes to charge (it also checks the alternator at the
same time). I think you really need to take it to an auto parts store and
let them use their test equipment on it. It may take a hour for them to
complete the test, but at least you'll know how good or bad the battery
is. Some of them have test equipment that runs the battery through
multiple charge/discharge tests. If it's bad, you're in the right place to
get a new one.
