Hi Andy:

They have discovered black holes in space that don't suck as bad as the Shelbyville
show. I pretty much just go to the auction anymore, its pretty good. This year I can't
even go to the auction due to other commitments. Several guys work
really hard trying to make it into a good show but their work is mostly unappreciated.
The main officers are pullers and the show is also a pull. That is OK but they bring a
stripped out puller to the show and park it in line then go to the pull and take it home
as soon as the pull is over. They don't give a rats behind about the show itself... Most
of the guys that do show just want to show to each other. Bring one in and put it in
line and leave. They come back and pick it up on the last day. None of them will make
any attempt to show to the general public. Some years I have more stuff in my barn lot
than they have at the show. :-)
The Rushville (next town east) show on the other hand has a great show with lots of
activity (and some steam). They charge admission there but they have big crowds. The
Shelbyville show is free but they are going to have to start paying if they want a crowd...
Greensburg (next town south east) has a nice show too. So does Brookville. I know
that you have been to the Johnson County show because that is where I first met you in
 person... :-)
I tried to help the local show along a couple of times and one year I took about 6 tractors
and some implements too. I spent a lot of time sitting at the display and talking with
visitors trying to talk the show up. The only thanks I got was a couple of the club hot shots
making fun of my "rusty old crap". I just don't have time any more... I would about kill for
a decent local show but since we don't have one I have switched my efforts to the
Country Fair event at the Conner Prairie living history museum north east of Indy.
They absolutely love us and our active demo's up there. Scott Pike (of this list) sets
up an active display there too. He thinks even less of the local show than I do... :-)

We are trying to set a date for our annual pumpkin festival this fall and right now we
are talking about October 6-7-8. If I can get things together I want to have a old tractor
show of sorts that weekend. First I have to get past the next several weekends... Our oldest
daughter is borrowing the back yard of the "manor" house this weekend to have a surprise
party for her husband involving his large family. She wanted to use one of the local parks
but everything was booked. The weekend of the 10th is an annual family reunion here at
the farm for what is left of my family. The weekend of the 17th is the annual reunion
here for Diana's family. The weekend of the 24th is Cubfest at Gene Dotson's (if I wrote it
down right) and I fully intend to make that.
I have a "business pursuits" section in my farm insurance that is supposed to cover such
things but I need to check with them on just how much I can do at one time and be safe. We
have one likely concession vendor in the family and will likely limit that. We are talking about
a flea market and crafts area and I would love to get some active old trade displays in like
blacksmithing and hand woodworking etc. Maybe an invitation to the local historical society
We plan primitive camping for exhibitors. We will be selling indian corn and gourds in addition
to the U-pick pumpkins and squash. If I can get it all together it will be a very busy weekend. :-)
Heck, if it looks like the renter will have his corn run off of his part of that field and the
weather cooperates we might even turn a little ground old tractor style.
I would love to have a black powder shoot but I suspect that my insurance agent would
have a stroke at the mere mention of it. ;-) ;-)
I also plan an invitation to the local grade schools.

I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack
me at once. :-)
