The rollover guard isn't a bad idea for this use. A guy I know quite well
was mowing a pasture fence row a year and a half ago, he had mowed this
same fence before, with a 25 hp Kabota and brush hog when he hit a washout
that hadn't been there before and which tall grass covered. It rolled over
in a ditch and pinned him underneath. He lay there for 6 hours before his
brother found him underneath and called for help. He was in bad shape for
awhile but has since returned to work after a lot of rehab although he
still has some nerve damage. Actually, the biggest amount of his problems
was caused not by the rollover, but by being pinned for so long and not
having the proper blood flow. When doing this type of work, it is probably
a good idea to let someone know your plans so if they don't hear from you
in a certain amount of time they will check on you.
On another note, last week at a John Deere dealer 40 miles from here, a 20
year old was working on a brush hog attached to a tractor. He was doing
this after hours and was working under it on a creeper. For some reason it
lowered and pinned him underneath. He was under it for 10 or 12 hours until
someone came to open the dealership the next morning. When found he was
alert and talking. For whatever reason he died a short time later at the
hospital before they could flight care him to a bigger hospital. Sad.
