[AT] Getting the shine back

Thanks for the info. This will probably be the one and only time I will
need a commercial buffer, so I may see if I can rent one.

Again, thanks.

Yes a buffer makes a big difference. You need to keep it moving, so you
don't burn through the paint. If I could make a suggestion about buffing.
If you get an electric buffer, don't get one of those things they sell at
Sears. Those orbital buffer work for getting wax off. Go to an automotive
paint supplier and get a decent buffer and the correct pads for the
different types of compounds. Then go to a junk yard and get a junk fender
from a car or whatever and practice with that. That is so you get the
"feel" of what you are doing, before you damage the paint on the tractor.

The '52 JD 60 I restored back in '98 has several coats of base and 3
hand-rubbed coats of clear coat. Back in 2002, I brought it home from a
show as a storm was approaching and didn't have time to unload it. My wife
helped me put a tarp over it just as the hail started. The hail didn't do
any damage, but when the winds came up, the tarp beat the crap out of the
finish. The guy who painted it swears that it just needs to be buffed to
get the shine back.

I've tried polishing compound and several other compounds he suggested with
no luck. Would an electric buffer make a difference?

Thanks
