I have had a similar problem with Kohler engines, finally someone told 
me to change the ignition to the Kohler brand transistor ignition.  Most 
dealers never heard of it.  I now go ahead and make the ignition change 
at the first sign of any problem and now find that Kohlers are very 
reliable, start very easy  and seem to run forever.
