[AT] Huber info-Block is blown

I just got word that the Gleaner combine I was going to get the Hercules
engine out of actually has an Allis engine, not a Hercules.

Does anyone happen to know which tractors & combines used Hercules QXC-5
engines?

Thanks,

Dick Day

I repowered my Huber Road maintainer with a Hercules QXD-3 from a John Deere
model 55 combine. According to the 2001 Farm Equipment Hotline book this
combine was made from 1954 to 1969 and used the same engine.

Estimated 70.5 HP. I know it was a big improvement over the QXB-5 I had in
mine. Bolted right up to the existing bell housing and using the same
clutch / transmission set up. Had to change the front mounting bracket and
pulley and had to drill out and tap a couple of mounting holes for mounting
the belt driven hydraulic pump. The bosses were cast in the block but were
never tapped for the combine installation.
Block dimensions would be the same for manifolds, starter, head, and most
bolt on pieces.

Also these engines were used in some Chris Craft boats. Same blocks and
engines styles.

Dad rebuilt a Gibson last summer with a Hercules in it. I think the early
JD55's ran Hercules. I also believe they were in some Clarke forklifts--but
don't hold me to it. Parts took a little while to get and one piece had to
come out of Canada.

I have a qxd5 Herc, presently on an air compressor that is available, if it
is near enough kin to the qxc5 that you presently have., I don't know.
