[AT] A long shot--Wisconsin part

Have you tried using nickel filler rod on cast iron? It works awfully
nice. You'll spend a lot of time heating up the part evenly prior to
welding and working with it to keep it from cooling too fast when you're
done, but the actual weld itself goes fairly quickly.

I worked to weld the bottom four inches back onto a cast iron windmill
frame a number of years ago. There were major sections of the frame
completely missing and we used a mixture of irons as a framework for
building the original cast shape back up to the original contour and
then did some minor machining afterward -- drilling, etc.

But if that's not an option for you, there's a collector friend in
southern Michigan who has a NOS Wisconsin engine with the
starter/generator and associated controls on it. He wants to sell the
whole engine, but because it is NOS he isn't going to "give it away."

I know this is a real long shot but I'm wondering if anyone has a
mounting bracket for a starter for a single cylinder 12 HP Wisconsin
engine (S-12D). The casting is part of the standard Prestolite
starter (one end of it). The bracket I have broke right across the
two generator bolt holes. It is cast iron so trying to repair it
might be a waste of time. John W.
