[Farmall] F-20 questions

The mag should be firing close to TDC---depends on if you have it retarded 
or not. Going by memory it should fire a few degrees before TDC if it is not 
retarded (in cranking position). I beleive the rotation is CW on the rotor. 
To fine tune the timing there  is a coupler with one bolt thru the side that 
drives the mag. You'll notice lots of holes. Indexing the bolt is how you 
fine tune the mag. Sounds like you are way off right now.
You may want to pick up a service manual to get the exact timing specs. You 
should be able to get one from Rice Equip in PA.

For what it is worth I always chicken out and use a belt to crank one for 
the first time. If you don't have a belt then perhaps tow it.
