[AT] old expressions

That's one I heard as a kid, Farmer, and it came from my father's Uncle
John in Colorado. It had particular meaning for our family because we
were three boys.

One I heard whenever I wasn't doing things right was: I'm going to trade
you for a yellow dog, and shoot the dog!

My maternal grandfather was told one once as a boy (in
Evansville, IN) and he remembered it all of his life. I
sometimes use it now. He was playing with 2 other boys one
day as a youth and they were pretty much acting the fools
as boys sometimes do. A stranger came along and looked at
them shaking his head as he said: "One boy is a boy. Two
boys are half a boy. Three boys are no boy at all".
The stranger did pretty well since telling a boy something
once that he will remember for life is quite a job...
