[AT] OT - Laptop recommendations - Update

I go into Control Panel, Add/Delete Programs, and go down through the
whole list to pull out the unwanted material.  Most of the time this
also takes out the shortcut icons on the desktop, but sometimes those
need separate action after you've gone through the entire list of
software.

I'm actually replying on my new computer. It's been a while since I've
had a new one, and I'm amazed how much bundled CRAP comes installed on
the system, AOL,buy this,buy that ect. Does anyone know the best way to
uninstall this junk? My BIL had a new computer and he started
uninstalling those unwanted programs, but in some cases couldn't
uninstall certain files, and he would get error pop ups and such. The
good folks at Best Buy offered to do it for $129,telling me they would
fine tune the registry but that's a little rich.

As far as I know there are 3 wireless network options that are readily 
available.  The old one and the one I have is 802.11 B.  It's kinda
slow. 
Then there is 802.11 G and I think it's a lot faster but I haven't used

There isn't all that much to setting it up.  You just buy the router and

hook it up.  Mine has ports in the back to hard wire stuff that doesn't
have 
a wireless LAN card.

I'll stop because there are others that know a heck of a lot more about

than I do.   I think you'll be happy with the Toshiba.  I'm not saying
it is 
best but it should do a good job and their support is great.  Keep the
box 
it came in so you will have a way to ship it if something does go wrong.

Well, my wife and I went shopping this afternoon and we found a Toshiba 
laptop that we liked, Centrino Duo, 1.5MG ram and a 120G HD, with
Windows 
Media Center edition. It should serve us well for a long time. Now comes
the 
task of trying to hook up a wireless network for both the new computer
and a 
printer. Has anyone done that recently? Any advice? Thanks for all the

It's
a Toshiba.  It's 3 or is it 4 years old now and I've never had a minutes
trouble with it except for a cooling fan that started acting up.  I
replaced
it for about $15 bucks.

I store lots of pictures and recieve and send big files over the
internet on
a regular basis.  Works great.

I've been thinking about sidelining our desktop and switching to a
laptop
instead. Ideally, I would like to install a wireless router so that my
wife
and I are not tied to the desk if we want to surf the web or read email.

question is, what type should I be looking for, and what features are
important? I know very little about the chip sets used in laptops, and

they compare with the ones used in desktops. Here's what I would need

laptop to do. Internet and email (wireless), Microsoft Office
applications,
digital camera storage. Our desktop is a PIII 1GZ and it works just fine
for
what we do. Any thoughts with regards to brands/features would be
appreciated.
