[AT] Help with a Drag Harrow

You 'built' an airstrip? Wow. I once owned a home that had a deck along
the entire front of the house. I later added patio lights to the deck. My
neighbors used to tease me that at night they could see planes circling
above trying to find the approach to my deck :) So that's the closest I
ever came to owning an airstrip.

    Dick;
When I built my airstrip I built a harrow for incorporating
the seed. I started with a 4 foot piece of oak, about 4 inches
thick and 12 inches wide. I drilled holes in it at about 30
degree angle so I could drive 6 inch pole barn spikes in it.
They stick out about 3 inches on the bottom. I them pulled this
ahead of my 4 foot roller with a short chain to cover the seed
and make a smooth firm surface. I have a very good stand where I
used this. And as the tv ads brag "It didn't cost me one penny"

: I am the ultimate city-slicker, so please bear with me.
: This spring, we will be seeding about an eighth of a mile
of a wide
: ditch. I've been told that after seeding that I should run a
drag harrow
: over the seed bed to help cover the seed. Unless I can find
another use for
: this harrow, I'll probably never use it again.
: The prices range anywhere from nearly $200 to $500 for a
4-foot drag
: harrow. I've never seen one before but looking at the
pictures, it's hard
: for me to imagine that there is enough material there to
justify that kind
: of cost. It looks like a section of chain link fence.
: Has anyone ever made one? Can it be made for less than the
price of a
: manufactured one?
:
: Thanks!
